Assess your system

System assessment tells you what needs attention and what can safely remain unchanged about a system and its dependencies.

Registration tells NimbusWiz that a system exists. Assessment analyzes the system’s current state: dependency relationships, upgrade risks, compatibility concerns, and components that may require intervention before modernization.

The result is an evidence-based view of system risk. You can then use that assessment to decide whether the system is ready for modernization or whether specific issues should be resolved first.

Before you begin

Register a system first. See Register a system.

Open System Assessment

From the sidebar, select System Assessment.

note

The Run Scan actions shown in Fleet Management and on the System Detail page are currently inactive. You do not need to trigger a scan from those locations to use the Assessment page.

Understand the assessment results

The assessment shows you what the system looks like right now.

Risk summary

The summary cards show the overall upgrade readiness of the system.

  • High Risk Components: Upgrade blockers. Failures or breaks if you proceed without addressing them.
  • Medium Risk Components: Components that need attention but won't stop the upgrade. These are the things to plan for.
  • Up to Date Components: Components that are compatible and do not require action.

The summary helps you quickly determine whether the system is largely stable or whether significant remediation work is required before modernization.

Dependency Graph

The Dependency Graph visualizes how system components depend on one another.

The graph shows the system at the center, with its direct dependencies branching out, and nested dependencies below. You can select any component to see details: its name, version, and how it connects to the rest of the system.

Risk Heatmap & Recommendations

The Risk Heatmap provides a component-level breakdown of assessment results and recommended actions.

ColumnWhat it tells you
ComponentDependency or system component name
Risk LevelHigh, Medium, or Low risk classification
Current VersionInstalled version detected during assessment
Recommended VersionThe version NimbusWiz thinks this component should move to.
RecommendationThe specific action for this component: update, monitor, leave alone, or replace.

Sort by risk level to see the blockers first, or by component name to find a specific dependency.

Assessment gate

The assessment gate determines whether the system is ready to proceed to modernization planning.

Pass: No high-risk components are blocking the path forward. The Proceed to Modernization button activates, and you can move to get a recommendation.

Fail: One or more high-risk components are blockers. The Proceed to Modernization button stays inactive. You need to address these in Troubleshooting before moving forward.

A failed gate doesn't mean the system is unstable; it means NimbusWiz can't confidently recommend a path with current data.

Re-assess after fixing blockers

After resolving issues identified during troubleshooting, return to the System Assessment page and run the assessment again. Updated results reflect the system’s current dependency and risk state.

Next step

Once assessment passes, go to the Modernization Advisor to review recommended upgrade paths and modernization profiles. See Get a recommendation.
